Sundays are for baking: filled soft bread rolls

Hello everyone!

I’ve spent some time away from the computer and internet and I feel very happy about that. I’ve mentioned before that I really do waste too much time in front of the screen. But I still love browsing beautiful blogs and I also LOVE blogging.

Yesterday we had friends over for dinner. I made a bunch of pretty tasty snacks including tapas and homemade bread. If you follow me on instagram you know there’s a lot of bread making around this house these days. I love being this 50s housewife ^^

And today I would like to share a delicious party treats‘ recipe: the filled soft bread rolls!

For the rolls:

500 g flour (wheat)
75 g margarine
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons sugar
200 ml milk
1 package dry yeast (i used fresh yeast because i didn’t have dry yeast at home… works great!)

For the filling:

250 g ground meat
1 onion (diced)
250 g crushed tomatoes
1 tablespoon tomato purée
1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
salt, pepper, olive oil

First, prepare the bread roll dough. Mix all the ingredients together (like they are listed) – if the dough turns out too sticky, add a bit more flour. Put in a bowl and keep it in a hot place (like your heating system) and cover with a cloth.
Let the dough rest for about 30 minutes.

Now, start heating a pan, adding some olive oil and  gently roast the ground meat. Add onions, tomato purée, crushed tomatoes and tomato ketchup. Let it cook a while and stir all along the way. Add salt and pepper and simmer on medium heat.

After the dough has risen enough, form hand-sized bread rolls, flatten them, add some filling to the middle and close the roll. Place in a baking pan.

Bake at 347 °F (175 ° C) for 30 – 35 minutes. They taste best when they are still hot ❤ But they also make a perfect addition to your lunch box 😉

Have fun baking!
