Into the Wild.

Hey!

Did you ever watch a movie that leaves you with goosebumps and a silent „WOW“ on your lips? Well… to me, this doesn’t happen very often. Last Tuesday night, it did. A friend came over and she brought the DVD „Into the Wild“ – I had seen the cover image on amazon before but didn’t think it would be interesting. To be honest… I didn’t even know what this movie was about. Anyways. She told me I HAD TO watch this movie. So we sat down and watched. And noone spoke a word.

„Into the Wild“ is the story of Christopher McCandless aka. „Alexander Supertramp“ – as he calls himself later – who graduated from elite College when he realizes there are so many things missing in his life. So he packs his stuff and leaves for good. He drives a while in his car then burns all his money, gets rid of his ID and changes his name. His family doesn’t know where he is.

Chris, who is a genius in so many ways, spends 2 years in the wild. He meets some new friends during his journey and battles some of his fears. He writes down everything that is happening in a journal.

His major goal is to get to Alaska.

That’s where he finds the Magic Bus.

But Alaska is cold and lonely and even though he had spent 2 years on the road being very happy… he realized:

I don’t want to tell you about the end because I was glad I didn’t know how the movie ended.

When the movie ended, they showed a picture.

It was a picture the real Christopher McCandless took of himself.

This story is real.

Maybe that’s why I can’t let go. It fascinates me in so so many ways. I am trying to understand what it must feel like living in the wild for a long time. Being happy. That’s what the message is… he was finally in his happy place. Away from money, away from people, away from his family. But it also is about how happiness needs to be shared to be real. Oh my, so many weird thoughts on my mind right now. I am just swoon. Maybe that’s the right word.

If you haven’t seen this movie yet and if you maybe thought of seeing it… please do. It’s a great one with great pictures and an even greater message.

Loves,

Katja

PS: Emile Hirsch, who plays Chris…. he does a great job and he looks very alike!

  1. I loved the movie. Watched it 2 times actually. My best friend bought the movie and forced me to see it :p I’m happy he did! I was totally blown away about it. The words… just perfect. It makes them even more beautiful when you know they are really true. Love it…

  4. I’ve had so many people tell me about this movie, but I never got around to watching it. Got to get to it, sounds right down my lane and like it could maybe answer some of lifes questions I’ve been having lately.

  5. I love the movie since I was introducet to it by my bf`s dad. He told me that it was one of his all time favourite films and that I had to watch it too. So I did and I love the message of being happy, living life to the fullest and getting rid of unnecessary, people made constraints!
I also read the book by Jon Krakauer, which is also really well written (I can highly recommend it to you! 😉 )
