Hello everyone!

Today’s book is a book I stumbled upon via the amazon recommendation box. It just popped up on my recommendation list and I instantly liked the plot. So let me introduce you to:

Birthmarked by Caragh OBrien

The Story:

It is yet another dystopian adventure. And the first book of a trilogy. Of course!
The story takes place in the future, where everything is baked by the sun and times are rough. There are those who live inside the walled Enclave and those who live outside. One of these outsiders is 16-year-old Gaia who is a midwife, just like her mother. She  helps delivering babies in the world outside the wall and then she has to hand them over to be „advanced“ into the privileged society of the Enclave. Gaia has always believed this is her duty, but then her mother and father are arrested by the very people they loyally serve. Now Gaia has to start thinking different and she has to risk everything to try to rescue her parents.

Is it worth reading?

It is definitely a different kind of story and for me it was not easy to „dive in“ right at the beginning. But after a while I felt the need to hug Gaia and to make her feel good. It is a dramatic adventure and also holds some surprises for the reader. So I’d say…give it a try, it is not that expensive.

  1. Thanks for a great account/review. I am going to look this evening on Sony e-Reader site, to see about adding to my collection. Again, thanks. You made the plot sound so interesting, yet, didn’t give anything away. 🙂
